Challenging but fun - let's do exciting research together!
For Prospective Ph.D. Students
Students interested in pursuing a Ph.D. degree are expected to enroll in the Graduate School of Global Environmental Studies at Kyoto University.
If our research themes appear to fit your academic background and interests-after reviewing our laboratory's YouTube and published research- please reach out to Prof. Katsumi and Assoc. Prof. Takai.
Information for Prospective Master's Students
Our laboratory conducts research on environmental geotechnics, including waste disposal and recycling, as well as soil and groundwater contamination. We also study sustainable infrastructure development from the perspective of global environmental conservation. Please see the following section for more details about our research topics.
Our laboratory belongs to the Graduate School of Global Environmental Studies (GSGES), Kyoto University. Students in the master's program may enroll either in the Department of Environmental Management or in the Department of Urban Management (Graduate School of Engineering, GSE). These two departments differ significantly in their curricula and atmosphere; however, members from both departments share the same laboratory activities, seminars, and social events.
Academic Pathways within the Laboratory
Division of Environmental Management, GSGES
An interdisciplinary graduate school specializing in environmental studies, where faculty members and students from various academic backgrounds collaborate. The program offers English-based courses with distinctive curricula, including fieldwork and long-term internship programs. All classes are conducted at the Yoshida Campus.
Division of Urban Management, GSE
As in other laboratories in civil and resources engineering, students take engineering-related courses. Classes are offered at the Katsura Campus.
